Feds Sue To Shut Down California's Biggest Marijuana Clubs

Harborside Health Center's two locations in Oakland and San Jose face a federal offensive.

The biggest medical marijuana dispensary in California is the federal government's latest target in the war on state-legal cannabis.

Harborside Health Center, with locations in Oakland and San Jose, opened for business on Tuesday morning to see legal notices posted on its doors, the dispensary said in a release.

U.S. Attorney Melinda Haag filed suit to seize the properties that house the dispensary as a way to fight back against the "marijuana superstore," she said in a statement on Wednesday.

The federal suit names both locations as defendants.

Harborside has 108,000 registered patients and pays $3 million in state and local taxes, the dispensary announced. Over 100 people work there.

Harborside CEO Stephen DeAngelo said that the dispensary will fight the federal government in court.

"We have nothing to hide," he said.
