Los Altos on Friday will celebrate its independence from Styrofoam food containers.

Restaurants in the tony Silicon Valley city will have to find something else to package food in. Stores will be banned from selling products made out of Styrofoam, including ice chests. The ban also applies to farmers and at festivals.

More than a dozen cities in Santa Clara County have banned Styrofoam, most recently Mountain view, which enacted its ban on Tuesday.
