Twenty seven people were displaced during a Tuesday morning two-alarm fire in Hayward, where a man had to jump out of a second floor window to safety.
Ritash Bhan, along with his sister and baby, and the rest of the residents in the Whitman Green apartment complex at 26381 Whitman Street are OK, after the fire. "I didn't have much time," Bhan said. "So I just jumped. I'm lucky."
Only minor injuries were reported.
The fire was reported just before 3 a.m. in the bottom units; residents say it started in someone's kitchen. Six were deemed uninhabitable.
The Red Cross was puttintg 17 people up in hotels, and the remaining ten were going to seek shelter with family and friends.
