Mother, Child Struck by Vehicle in San Francisco

A five-year-old girl was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries when she was hit by an SUV near the Stonestown Galleria in San Francisco Wednesday afternoon, a police sergeant said.

The girl was crossing Buckingham Way in a crosswalk at 20th Avenue with her 45-year-old mother at 12:23 p.m. when they were both struck by an SUV heading south on 20th, Sgt. Michael Andraychak said.

The mother and daughter were both rushed to the hospital. The mother's injuries were not considered life-threatening but it was unclear if her daughter would survive.

The 86-year-old driver stopped at the scene and cooperated with the investigation, Andraychak said. Police are continuing to investigate the collision.
