Officer-Involved Shooting Under Investigation in San Jose

San Jose police are investigating an officer-involved shooting that took place early Wednesday evening on the 1800 block of Almaden Road.

The incident appears to have stemmed from an auto-theft gone wrong.

It all began when police officers stopped to question the driver and passenger of what was reported to be a stolen vehicle. As the officer was questioning the woman driver, she was blocked in by another vehicle, and then backed up and rammed into a police officer on foot. That is when the officer pulled out his gun and fired into the vehicle.

"We heard gunshots, rapid-fire, like five, six, at least," witness Tim Valdivieso said. "And then we walked over there and you could see that cops had their guns drawn on the little red car that was in the driveway that kept trying to come out."

Both the driver and the officer were taken to the hospital. The extent of their injuries is currently unknown.

The passenger in the stolen vehicle was taken into custody.
