Al Pacino stopped by the Bay Area this week to debut the new documentary he directed, Wilde Salome. Pacino was at the Castro Theatre presented by Banana Republic Wednesday night for the premiere.

Wilde Salome is a reinterpretation of one of playwright Oscar Wilde's most controversial works. Salome was written by Wilde in 1891 and tells the Biblical story of Salome who asks for the head of John the Baptist as a reward for dancing the dance of the seven veils.

Pacino's version is described as a tale of lust, greed and one woman's scorn.

Wednesday night's premiere was a benefit event for the GLBT Historical Society. It commemorated the 130th anniversary of Oscar Wilde's visit to San Francisco.

Mayor Ed Lee declared Wednesday "Oscar Wilde Day".
