Recology Garbage Truck Strikes, Kills Woman in San Francisco

A Recology garbage truck struck and killed a woman early Friday morning at the Seventh Street off-ramp of eastbound Interstate 80 early Friday morning, according to California Highway Patrol.

The incident prompted a severe traffic alert for eastbound I-80 in San Francisco.

At first, it was reported that the woman died, but at 6:45 a.m., the California Highway Patrol told NBC Bay Area that she was showing "signs of life" and was taken to San Francisco General Hospital.

By late Friday morning, CHP confirmed to NBC Bay Area that the woman had succumbed to her injuries.

The truck struck the woman just before 6 a.m. past 7th Street, where traffic was diverted off the exit.

The California Highway Patrol closed are the connector ramps from both north and southbound US Highway 101 to eastbound I-80.
