Woman Says She Was Randomly Kidnapped in Santa Rosa

Northern California police say a woman reported being randomly abducted, sexually abused and held captive for three weeks.

The Santa Rosa Press Democrat reported Saturday that the 22-year-old woman said she was abducted at gunpoint by three men she says she didn't know in a Santa Rosa neighborhood. She said she was taken to a home in the rural part of the city, where she was beaten and assaulted before escaping Wednesday after noticing an open door. A friend took her to the police. Police didn't say how the woman contacted the friend.

Sonoma County Sheriff's Lt. Carlos Basurto said there was no evidence of the incident being "anything other than random.''

The woman had bruising and "numerous injuries'' consistent with being beaten and sexually assaulted, Basurto said. The woman was not taken from her home, but she declined to provide more details on the incident, he said.

Investigators and a SWAT team searched the home where the woman said she was held captive. Several people living at the residence were questioned, but no arrests have been made.
