A kayaker found a body in San Francisco's Lake Merced Sunday afternoon, a police sergeant said.

Around 4 p.m. the kayaker saw the body near Skyline Boulevard and the Great Highway and called the Police Department, Sgt. Lyn Tomioka said.

Firefighters assisted police officers with the retrieval, Tomioka said.

There were no obvious signs of criminal activity, but as with any  death, police are investigating the incident as suspicious until the medical examiner determines the cause, she said.
