Marissa Mayer started her presentation at SXSW with a presentation of the recently released Google Maps 5.2. Vector maps that take up 1/100 of the size of the old tile version, complete with 3D representation of buildings and a system that reroutes you around bad traffic.
It wasn't until the end of the Q&A that the inevitable question was asked -- is it available on the iPhone?
No, Mayer said, an answer that wasn't all that surprising. But, Mayer said, Google would like to see a better version of maps for the iPhone.
The implication seems clear: If Google wants this to happen and it hasn't, Apple's the likely roadblock.
