Fun with Public Art: DeFacing Oakland Park

Quick, check out Oakland's new Fox Square park before it becomes home to 1,000 square feet of questionable bronze. This isn't just any typical massive public art work, people -- no, this one is educational. The ominously entitled "Remember Them" depicts twenty five "champions for humanity," all looking forlorn and deep in empathetic thought. Designed by the Chiodo Art Development, the four-piece sculpture will stand 52 feet wide by 21 feet tall -- these people are definitely bigger than Berkeley's.. No specs yet on when exactly it'll be unveiled, but don't worry -- the city didn't provide a lick of funding. The $7 million needed was all raised from private donations, though the sculptures will technically be public property.
