A 12-year-old boy with autism was seriously injured Friday morning when he was struck by a car on eastbound Interstate 580 near Fruitvale Avenue, according to a California Highway Patrol spokesperson.
It happened just before 6:30 a.m.
Authorities say the Oakland boy, who had been reported missing, may have been on the highway because he was disoriented.
The boy is currently in an induced coma and in critical condition.
Authorities are not releasing any information on when or how he went missing.
Authorities say it doesn't appear the driver who struck the boy did anything wrong.
