The man wanted for a $1.2 million theft of merchandise out of a San Francisco hotel has a reasonable alibi.
He's the owner -- and it's his stuff.
The "massive theft" on Oct. 6 at Charisma Crafts, a "high-end" seller of Indian items at the Fairmont Hotel in San Francisco, culminated in "someone us[ing] a U-Haul to empty out the store," according to San Francisco police.
Who could do such a thing? Someone with keys to the joint, the San Francisco Examiner reported.
The "suspect" in the case is Nasir Sheikh, a resident of South San Francisco who says he is the owner of the shop -- and only removed 60 percent of the store's merchandise following a dispute with his business partner because he couldn't fit the rest in the U-Haul.
Police arrived at his home the day of the "robbery" but did not arrest him, according to the report.
