A fire in west Marin had some people preparing to evacuate as flames raced up a steep hillside Wednesday near the Nicasio Reservoir.
The so-called Bridge Fire broke out around 12:45 p.m. and ripped through dry brush and up Black Mountain. The blaze late Wednesday had charred at least 45 acres and was 50 percent contained. Fire crews are expected to stay on scene overnight and into Thursday morning.
The Marin County Fire Department received assistance from the Novato Fire District, Ross Valley Fire Department, Skywalker Ranch Fire Department, and volunteers from Nicasio, Inverness and Bolinas.
Petaluma-Point Reyes Road is closed from Platform Bridge to state Highway 1, Marin County fire officials and Novato police said.
A cause is under investigation.
