Body Found Near Highway 101 in San Benito County

It does not appear the find is connected to the Sierra LaMar case.

A body was found in a rural area outside the town of Aromas in San Benito County Friday morning.

Santa Clara County Sheriff's investigators were on the scene by Friday afternoon.

Santa Clara County spokesman Sgt. Jose  Cardoza said that his officers were asked to assist in the find, but said it was due to short staffing in San Benito County and not because of a connection to the Sierra LaMar disappearance.

Sources told NBC Bay Area that the body is a female and that because of evidence found near the victim, they believe she was murdered.

A high-ranking law enforcement official told the NBC Bay Area Investigative Unit that it was "highly unlikely" that the body is that of Sierra LaMar.

The body was found at 9:20 a.m. on Cannon Road by locals who said they noticed it while walking in the area about 100 feet from the roadway.

Cannon Road is near where Highway 101 intersects with Highway 156.
