Computer Outage Won't Win DMV Any Fans

Network crash comes a day before forced furlough

Planning a trip to the DMV? Be prepared to be frustrated.

A day before DMV offices will close for a mandatory furlough day, a system wide computer failure at the California Department of Motor Vehicles is causing delays at 168 DMV offices statewide.

DMV offices were still open Thursday but workers were forced to do everything by hand. But there was good news: DMV workers are still able to process driver's licenses and registrations.

But employees' penmanship proved not to be as quick as even an aging PC. The outage forced long delays across the state.
