Fremont Police Arrest Two After Mercedes Carjacking

Fremont police have arrested an 18-year old man and an 18-year-old woman in connection with a carjacking and car-smashing incident that caused quite a mess at the Union Landing shopping center in Union City Sunday afternoon.

Police say the two suspects carjacked a Mercedes Benz in Fremont's Mission San Jose neighborhood a little before 1 p.m. Officers spotted the car and went after them. The chase continued into Union Landing where the Benz bashed into one of the sidewalk trees causing it to fly 70 feet into the parking lot. The carjackers then hit five parked cars.

"Your car is involved. Margaret your car is involved!" Arturo Quezada said to his wife after they walked out of the Century Theaters and saw all the commotion. They found their smashed up green Honda Civic sandwiched in between two other cars.

"I was just, 'Oh boy.' You know this is out of my control," Margaret Quezada said. "Called my insurance right away and gave them a report and took a lot of pictures of everything."

Lynette Santos' Honda SUV was also damaged.

"Pretty shocked cause I parked it out pretty far from the theater so I am thinking no one is going to hit it out here," Santos said.

Police say a woman was sitting in her white Nissan when the carjackers crashed right into her. She was taken by ambulance to a nearby hospital. Meanwhile, the carjackers jumped out of the Mercedes and took off running. Officers arrested both separately in different parts of the shopping center.

"The person that committed this crime, the hijacking. The gentleman's Mercedes. He caused all this mess for people like me and her who was enjoying our Sunday at the movies," Arturo Quezada sai
