Muni Bus That Killed Cyclist, 78, Lacked Safety Feature: Report

A San Francisco Muni bus involved in a deadly crash last week was missing an important safety feature.

The San Francisco Chronicle reported that the bus didn't have a "people catcher" in front of its rear tires. The plastic, bumper-like device is designed to push people who fall under the bus out of the path of its wheels.

The bus did have the mounting equipment for the guard. It's still unclear why the "people catcher" was missing.

A 78-year-old bicyclist was hit and killed by the bus in the city's SOMA neighborhood Friday.
