New Santa Clara Soccer Fields May Run Baseball League Out of the Park

It appears baseball may be run off the field by soccer in Santa Clara.

The city is considering a redesign of Montague Park, which could include two soccer fields built next to the baseball field.

The Santa Clara Parks and Recreation Department said a city assessment survey showed a need for more soccer fields.

If approved, some said the plan would essentially remove a baseball league from having games at the park.

"I would be extremely sad to tell all these kids that play in this league that there's no longer a league in your community," said Ryan Thompson, league director.

Thompson the soccer fields near the baseball field would be "game over" for the league because there would be no room for practice or fans.
