Oakland: Seven Murders in Seven Days

Some people in the city are fed up and the mayor and police chief say they have a plan.

It's a problem where there are no easy answers.

The city of Oakland is reeling with a high number of killings in one week.

Seven murders in as many days.

Some people in the city are fed up and the mayor and police chief say they have a plan.

Chief Howard Jordan says he is working on ways to do more with less. He says the plan is to restructure his department by moving his investigative and gang taskforce units into the field. He is also looking at ways to redeploy problem solving officers into the violent neighborhoods.

"As a department we have to be more proactive and not reactive we’re pretty reactive right now because of our limited resources," said Chief Jordan.

The city has two academies filled with police prospects. The department hopes to have more officers on the streets in two months.
