PG&E Work to Repair High-Pressure Gas Leak in San Jose That Prompted Evacuation of Businesses

PG&E crews worked throughout the night and morning on Wednesday to fix a high-pressure gas leak that prompted businesses to be evacuated in San Jose the day before.

Emergency crews were sent to 2100 block of Tully Road just before 3 p.m.. Tuesday after a construction crew struck an unmarked gas line, causing a leak, at a strip mall, firefighters said.

Officials said 12 businesses were evacuated.

"Initially it was shelter in place but we decided to evacuate those structures," San Jose Fire Capt. Christopher Salcido said.

The leak was on a 4-inch distribution line and has prompted the closure of Tully Road between Quimby Road and Capitol Expressway, he said.

Gas was shut off just after 6 p.m., officials said. Crews had hoped the road would reopen at 7 a.m. on Wednesday, but the work took longer than that.

No injuries have been reported.
