“Armed and Dangerous” Suspect Escapes Authorities in Gilroy

Authorities called off a search for an attempted homicide suspect who took off from sheriff’s deputies on Tuesday afternoon and may be staying at a nearby Motel 6.

Authorities say Larry Quiroz, 22, of Hollister fled from San Benito County Sheriff detectives about 2:30 p.m. near U.S. Highway 101 at the Monterey Highway overpass in Gilroy. But they suspended the search about four hours later without finding him, according to Gilroy police. He is still considered armed and dangerous.

It's unclear how he got away.

Quiroz is wanted for his involvement in the March 2014 shooting of a man who was shot multiple times with a rifle, according to Hollister police. Two men were arrested in the case but Quiroz has remained at large.

Quiroz was last seen Tuesday running along the Uvas-Carnadero Creek bed south of the sports park wearing a black sweatshirt, white T-shirt and blue jeans.

Anyone who sees him should call 911.
