Caltrain Celebrates 150th Anniversary of Rail Service Between San Jose and San Francisco

The public joined local and state officials Saturday to celebrate 150 years of rail service between San Francisco and San Jose.

The railroad known today as Caltrain is the oldest passenger railroad in the west in continuous operation.

On Saturday, a special train made stops at each of Caltrain's historic stations to leave a commemorative plaque recognizing the station's status as historic landmarks.

The rides were free, and the train picked up riders at every station.

The celebration ended with a party marking the 150 years of service.

Caltrain serves 54,000 riders every weekday.
