A preliminary 3.6 magnitude earthquake struck near San Jose early Thursday, according to the United States Geological Survey.
The quake, centered about 9 miles east-northeast of downtown San Jose, hit at 5:15 a.m. along the Calaveras Fault, the USGS said.
Residents reported feeling the shaking across multiple Bay Area cities, including San Jose , Santa Clara, Milpitas, Campbell and Morgan Hill.
The San Jose Fire Department said it did not respond to any reports of damage or emergencies related to the quake.
