Marin Girl, 8, Raises $30,000 Against Child Slavery With Lemonade Stand

Vivienne Harr, an eight-year old from Fairfax in Marin County, is working for free -- so that the estimated 100,000 slaves working in the United States don't have to.

As of Saturday, the 56th consecutive day this summer her Make-A-Stand! Lemonade: The Sweet Taste Of Freedom has been active, she's raised $30,000 to go to nonprofit Not For Sale, which combats human trafficking, according to the Marin Independent Journal.

Visitors to the stand receive a cup of organic lemonade made with agave nectar for a donation of their choice, the newspaper reported. This strategy leads some to donate an average of $18 per cup of refreshment, the newspaper reported.

Most of the donations, including $18,000 in 24 hours after a New York Times columnist got wind of the situation, came via makeastandlemonade.com. But Vivienne is still out there selling lemonade -- and plans to do so until she hits a $150,000 goal.
