Multiple Collisions Cause Traffic Delays in Bay Area

Multiple weather-related collisions caused delays on Highway 17 from the summit through San Jose over the weekend.

At least five different accidents were reported on Highway 17 Sunday, and more rain overnight means a more challenging Monday morning commute.

On Highway 101 in San Jose the driver said water came up underneath his vehicle, and the next thing he knew, he was spinning out. Fortunately he was not hurt.

On Saturday in Los Gatos, an incident at around 3:30 p.m. prompted police to block one lane on northbound Highway 17. No injuries were reported.

A separate incident just north of Summit Road at around the same time prompted the closure of one lane of northbound Highway 17 after occupants became trapped in a vehicle, officials confirmed.

In a third incident, a tree 20 inches in diameter fell and blocked three lanes of Northbound I-880 at the Bascom Avenue southbound off ramp. According to officials, traffic was backed up for about two miles.
