Even an Oakland city councilmember couldn't avoid getting picked up in the holiday crackdown on drunk driving.
Police arrested councilman Ignacio De La Fuente Thursday night on suspicion of driving under the influence, the Oakland Tribune reports.
He was pulled over for speeding on 880 near the Fruitvale exit around 7:30 p.m.
The councilman was only in for a speeding ticket until the CHP officer noticed his impaired behavior.
One failed field sobriety test later, and De La Fuente was on his way to the North County Jail downtown. He was released that night with a court date for the misdemeanor charge.
About 540 police agencies across California are participating in the 17-day crackdown during the holiday season.
