Police shoot and kill armed man at home in West Oakland

Oakland police shot and killed an armed man Wednesday night during another agency's homicide investigation, the department said Thursday morning.

The shooting occurred at around 9:30 p.m. Wednesday at a home in the 1000 block of 16th Street, where Sacramento police had notified Oakland police they were investigating a homicide and requested assistance, police said.

Moments after Oakland officers arrived at the scene, the unidentified suspect came out of the home armed with a gun, and Oakland officers shot him, police said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

No officers were shot or injured, police said.

It was unclear how many officers fired their weapons, but those officers were placed on administrative leave while the shooting is under investigation by OPD's Homicide Section and Internal Affairs Division as well as other outside agencies, police said.

No other details were released.
