A top official at the University of California Davis medical school is resigning over outrage surrounding possibly illegal experiments on dying cancer patients, according to reports.
Claire Pomeroy's last day as the dean of UC Davis's School of Medicine will be June 30, 2013. During her seven years as dean, she pulled in $734,000 a year and oversaw experiments conducted by doctors on dying brain cancer patients. These experiments may have been conducted without proper federal and university approval, according to the Sacramento Bee.
Two neurosurgeons, Dr. J. Paul Muizelaar and Dr. Rudolph J. Schrot, were banned from using human subjects in experiments last year, the newspaper reported. Both a federal agency and the school are conducting probes into the experiments.
Pomeroy told the Bee that she plans to work in Washington, D.C., in an unspecified role.
"I'd love Barack Obama to call me," she told reporters.
