A third-party contractor struck a gas line that leaked on a major road in Morgan Hill Monday morning, according to Cal Fire and PG&E officials.

Utility personnel were informed of the leak in the 16700 block of Monterey Road between Spring and Bisceglia avenues around 10:20 a.m., PG&E spokeswoman Mayra Tostado said.

PG&E was able to stop the flow of gas about 3:50  p.m. and made sure the area was safe with help from fire crews, Tostado said.

A 2- to 4-inch natural gas line leaked in the area, where surrounding buildings have been told to shelter in place, Cal Fire Capt. Chris Goodnight said.

No injuries were reported, Goodnight said.

Monterey Road is blocked between Spring and Ciolino avenues because of the leak, according to police.

The leak led to traffic delays and some evacuations, police said.
