Goodbye, Museum of Modern Art.
Until 2016 that is.
Museum-goers bid their own private farewells to the SFMOMA this past weekend, as the museum shut its doors on Sunday, according to reports.
The museum will be closed for the next several years as it undergoes a major renovation and expansion, the San Francisco Chronicle reported.
The new museum will "double" in size when it reopens in 2016.
Admission to the museum was free over the final days of operation over the weekend. About 48,000 people visited the museum during that stretch, which included overnight hours on Saturday night and Sunday morning.
