Flooding, fallen trees and minor mudslides were reported throughout San Mateo County Wednesday morning as another major storm hit the region.
Belmont-San Carlos Fire Marshal Jim Palisi said his agency has responded to several "relatively minor" mudslides in the hills above San Carlos, as well as in Belmont.
He said the fire department has also received numerous reports of flooding and that firefighters have been "very busy."
Menlo Park Fire Protection District Chief Harold Schapelhouman said Redwood City has experienced significant flooding and that Menlo Park engines have been called to assist there.
There hasn't been any serious flooding in Menlo Park, he said, but the city has seen several minor car accidents, and some trees and wires have fallen.
"They're normal things you have when the wind starts picking up and rain starts coming down," Schapelhouman said.
Coastside Fire Protection District Battalion Chief Ari Delay said that agency's jurisdiction, which stretches along the coast from Pacifica to the southern San Mateo County, was "hit pretty hard this morning," but the rain has since lightened up.
"We're recuperating pretty well," he said. No major incidents were reported.
On Tuesday, a woman narrowly escaped serious injury or death in Portola Valley today when a large oak tree fell onto her car with her behind the wheel, a battalion chief said.
The Portola Valley woman was driving down Old La Honda Road around 7:45 a.m. when an oak tree fell on the hood and rear of her Honda sport utility vehicle, Woodside Fire District Battalion Chief Don Romero said.
The woman, who appeared to be in her mid-40s, managed to get out of the vehicle on her own and did not suffer any injuries, Romero said. The damage to her Honda was minimal.
"She was quite fortunate," Romero said.
He said heavy wind and rain contributed to the tree's fall.
