Jed York Texts Prophetic Playoff Guarantee

Jed York sat down with Press Here and told the world that San Francisco 49ers coach Mike Singletary is not going anywhere. See the full interview at 9 a.m. on Sunday. (Published Monday, Oct. 11, 2010)

Don't worry 49ers fans, your team is still going to win the NFC West.

Just ask team president Jed York. Just days after going on NBC's Press Here and promising that coach Mike Singletary's job was safe, the young face of the franchise promised victorious days ahead for the once proud, now struggling franchise.

Nevermind the 49ers are off to their worst start since 1979 when Joe Montana was still struggling to carve out his legend. York has promised victory.

Just hours after the 49ers latest gut-wrenching loss to the Philadelphia Eagles -- a game that saw quarterback Alex Smith get into an argument with Singletary on national television -- York sent a text message to ESPN predicting the clouds parting ways to reveal the yellow brick road to football glory.

Mike Singletary said the 49ers might be 'dumb', but still has faith in his players and coaches.

"We're going to win the division," York said in his text message Monday. Sound familiar 49ers fans?

If the bold prediction turns out to be true, York would look prophetic. No team has started 0-5 and made it to the playoffs, let alone win its division, since the NFL switched to its current playoff format in 1990, when York was just 9-years-old.
