Gore doubles down on desire for 49ers return, praises Shanahan originally appeared on NBC Sports Bayarea
Frank Gore hasn't donned a 49ers jersey in a game since 2014, but the running back remains one of the popular players the organization has drafted in the 21st century. The Miami product spent his first decade in the NFL in the Bay Area, and in speaking with "The Morning Roast" on 95.7 The Game early Friday morning, said he absolutely would like to complete his NFL career in red and gold.
"I'll come back fast, man I'd love it," Gore said. "To wear that No. 21 jersey one more time, if that was to happen, it definitely would be my last year.
"I respect (49ers CEO Jed York) Jed, I respect the York family, I respect (49ers coach Kyle Shanahan) Kyle, I feel like one of the best play-callers in the game right now, and I think they didn't get a bunch of injuries, I thought they would have been right back in it, had a chance to run for it again.
"You gotta tell Jed and Kyle, just bring me back."
Gore told NBC Sports Bay Area back in September that he'd like to retire as a 49er, and that he and York already have discussed a reunion.

“We talked about that,” Gore said. “I got to. That’s the team that gave me the opportunity to do something I always wanted to do when I was a kid, play NFL ball.
“I was there for 10 great years. Been on bad teams and been on great teams. I love it out there.”

Gore has played for four NFL teams over six seasons since leaving the 49ers, most recently rushing for 653 yards and two touchdowns in 2020 with the New York Jets.
Jerick McKinnon and Tevin Coleman both had their contracts expire at the end of last season, and while the 49ers already re-signed Jeff Wilson for next season, there could be room for Gore to join the running back rotation in 2021.
He's clearly willing to, and if the 37-year-old wants to close his NFL career in 2021, 49ers fans ecstatically would welcome him back to the Bay.
