Steph Or LeBron? ‘That Would Be an Easy Choice' for Kevin Durant

OAKLAND -- As the first overall pick in the inaugural NBA All-Star draft, Kevin Durant's task is simple. Show up and play, which is all he wants to do.

It might not be so simple next season. He very easily could be a captain, and thereby given the authority to select his team.

Should he find himself in that position, owning the first overall pick, with both Stephen Curry and LeBron James available, Durant already knows his choice.

"Steph, probably," he said after Warriors practice Friday. "Yeah, probably, Steph.

"I'd love to play with LeBron, but I see Steph every day so that would be an easy choice."

Durant made it clear last week that he'd rather not be a captain. But the possibility exists next season because neither Curry nor James, who earned the title through having the highest number of votes in their respective conferences, will be eligible to serve as captains next season.

Which puts Durant, who finished second in the voting among Western Conference players, squarely in line to inherit the responsibility that comes with choosing his teammates.

And while the 2018 draft was conducted in secret, via conference call, there is the likelihood the 2019 draft will be televised.

"If I'm up to do it, then I'll do it," Durant said. "It really doesn't matter to me, either way. It's not a big deal. If I happen to get that opportunity, I'll do it and have some fun with it. If not, I'll still have fun."
