Actor Randy Quaid and wife Evi are in trouble with the law after their landlord ratted them out for living at a home they no longer owned and trashing it.
The couple’s property owner had the Quaids arrested at the California house Saturday evening for illegally mooching off his guest house and racking up $5,000 in damages, according to AP.
Now the Golden Globe-winning actor and his wife are facing counts of felony residential burglary and a misdemeanor charge of entering a noncommercial building without consent, with bail set at $50,000 for each. Evi is also hit with charges of resisting arrest.
When Santa Barbara sheriff’s deputies showed up, Dennis Quaid’s younger brother and Evi claimed that they had owned the place since the 1990s.
But a representative of the property owner showed the deputies documents that said another client bought the place in 2007, several years after another man purchased it from the Randy, 59, and Evi, 47.
A contractor chipped in to the Quaids’ mounting legal troubles by showing police damages worth thousands of dollars that he blamed on the Quaids’.
This isn’t the first time someone is trying to kick the couple out of their residences. A year ago they were busted for conspiracy, burglary, and defrauding an innkeeper of more than $10,000.
Although the felony charges were eventually dropped against Randy Quaid, his wife was sentenced to three years’ probation and 240 hours of community service after pleading no contest to the misdemeanor count.
