An unusual group of killer whales has been spotted in national marine sanctuary waters off the Bay Area.

Approximately 40 orcas were seen by a Sausalito whale watching expedition last weekend, about 19 miles from the Golden Gate Bridge, inside the Gulf of the Farallones National Marine Sanctuary, sanctuary spokeswoman Mary Jane Schramm said.
