Man Struck, Killed by Amtrak Train Near Vacaville

A man was struck and killed by an Amtrak train east of Vacaville late Wednesday morning, fire officials said.

The man was struck in the middle of the tracks and was pronounced dead at the scene, Vacaville Fire Protection District Chief Doug Rogers said.

The crash was reported at Hawkins and Byrnes roads, a half-mile north of Elmira Road around 11:45 a.m., Rogers said. The train was traveling about 70 mph.

Amtrak officials said on Twitter that its Capitol Corridor train #528 was delayed between Suisun City and Davis because of a trespassing incident.

Further details were not immediately available.
