Truckee Named Coolest Ski Town in North America: Report

Impending snow is exciting enough for winter-lovers gearing up to shred some powder at Lake Tahoe ski resorts.

What might be even more exciting is that Truckee has been named the coolest ski town in not just the United States but across all of North America for 2018, according to a report from Matador Network.

The independent travel publisher propped up Truckee for playing host to an array of available ski areas, including world-famous Squaw Valley, which hosted the 1960 Winter Olympics.

"Truckee is rad because it sits in the middle of more ski areas than anywhere else in the West, and yet has none of the glitz of places like Aspen or Jackson," a statement on the report read.

Truckee, which is situated about 10 miles northwest of Lake Tahoe, features a quaint strip of eateries, bars and shops in its downtown area. It also sits within a 20 minute drive of major ski resorts such as Northstar, Squaw Valley and Sugar Bowl.

Aside from its usual bustling atmosphere during the winter months, Truckee is also a hub for summer activity as people raft and fish along the Truckee River or hike across nearby snow-barren peaks.

Matador Network paid special attention to a town's physical terrain — during all times of the year — and quality of nearby ski hills when assembling its list.
