Police are investigating the fatal shooting of a woman on a bicycle in Berkeley late Tuesday, which tied up streets into Wednesday morning.

Police at first said the person killed was a man, but then updated that information to say the victim was a woman possibly in her 40s or early 50s.

Police received a 911 call at 11:36 p.m. reporting a fallen bicyclist near Longfellow Middle School at 1500 Derby Street.

When police got there, they discovered the bicyclist had suffered at least one gunshot wound, and was proounced dead at the scene. The case is now being investigated as a homicide.
