Ed Lee Wants to Hide Occupy SF in Vacant Lot

Former school site eyed for Occupy SF.

Mayor Ed Lee has a Thanksgiving surprise in store for Occupy SF: a parking lot owned by the school district.

Turns out that's a surprise to the school district, too!

The San Francisco mayor has a scheme to move the Occupy SF campers from their current prominent perch at Justin Herman Plaza along the Embarcadero to a former school site -- some empty pavement and mobile units -- near the 16th and Mission BART, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.

The site is the former home of Phoenix High, a San Francisco Unified School District alternative school. City staffers took Occupy representatives on a tour of the site, according to the newspaper.

Problem is Lee didn't advise school district officials of the plan, who would have to sign off on it.

And there's no guarantee that the Occupiers will appreciate a move from their known location in San Francisco's downtown to a site much more off the beaten path.

The new digs would have a fence, however -- but to keep Occupiers in or homeless folk out?
