The Santa Clara County medical examiner's office has identified a man who was struck and killed by a vehicle while walking with his grandson in Santa Clara on Friday night as 79-year-old Rui Hong Lin.

The collision occurred around 6:30 p.m. in the 900 block of Teal  Drive.

Lin, of Santa Clara, was walking in a residential area with his 2-year-old grandson when a silver 2001 Chevrolet van hit them, police said.

Emergency responders found Lin and the boy on the ground, both suffering from significant injuries.

They were transported to a hospital, where Lin died. His grandson  is expected to survive, police said.

The driver of the van is a 45-year-old woman from Santa Clara,  police said. Neither she nor her passenger was injured, and the van did not  have any visible damage.

Police are continuing to investigate the accident.

Anyone with information on the case is asked to call Investigator  Kenia Soto at (408) 615-4764.
