Injured Baby Bobcat Needs Medical Attention After Being Discovered By Girl Scouts in San Mateo Park

A baby bobcat is getting around-the-clock care at a Silicon Valley wildlife center after it was discovered in poor health by a group of Girl Scouts.

The scouts were at Huddart Park in San Mateo on Wednesday when they found a raven attacking the 10-week-old female. The baby bobcat was by itself – no mother, father or other bobcats were spotted in the vicinity.

The troop stayed with the animal for about four hours, watching from a distance while they waited for park rangers to respond. Rangers were able to reach Peninsula Humane Society, who then took the kitten into custody.

After examining the bobcat, the Humane Society transferred the bobcat to the Wildlife Center of Silicon Valley in San Jose, which regularly cares for bobcats. Experts at the Wildlife Center said the baby was so dehydrated she was clearly abandoned.

She also has puncture wounds to her head, which may be several days old.

Since the baby bobcat’s medical needs are exceeding their budget, they say donations are most welcome. The Wildlife Center of Silicon Valley accepts donations on its website.
