Joe Montana Plays Final Football Game at Candlestick Park in “Legends of Candlestick”

The final football game ever in San Francisco's Candlestick Park was played Saturday by a team of 49ers greats, led by four-time Super Bowl winner Joe Montana.

Montana, who played quarterback on the 49ers from 1979 to 1992, suited up once again to throw one final game-winning touchdown against an all-star team led by famed Miami Dolphins quarterback Dan Marino.

When Montana ran out into the field, it was like old times. An estimated 30,000 fans came to see him and other legends. It was a chance for them to say goodbye to the greats.

Ahead of this weekend's "Legends of Candlestick" final football Game, Montana signed autographs for fans in San Francisco, with all proceeds going toward the San Francisco police and fire departments.

The two public safety departments competed against each other in a flag football game ahead of Saturday's "Legends of Candlestick" game.

Montana and wide receiver Jerry Rice, along with former 49ers Roger Craig, Dwight Clark, Steve Young and many others, faced off in a game against a team captained by Marino.

The game is part of the San Francisco Recreation and Park Department's "Last Summer at the 'Stick" series of events.

Kick-off for the main game was at 7 p.m. at the stadium, which hosted its final 49ers game earlier this year.

The team will be playing at the new Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara starting next season.

Candlestick Park is set to be demolished in spring 2015 and a mixed-use housing and commercial development will be built on the site.

It was cold inside the park Staurday night, but fans said they wouldn't want it any other way.

They bundled up watching the game, and left the stadium one last time feeling nostalgic.
