Milpitas: Driver, Passengers Injured in VTA Bus Crash

A collision that involved a Valley Transportation Authority bus sent passengers to the hospital on Tuesday night. The accident, reported at 5:15 p.m., closed several lanes on Interstate 680 and snarled the evening commute.

The VTA Line 180 bus was headed south on Interstate 680 when the crash with a black Toyota pick up was reported.

The VTA said four passengers from the bus and the driver of the truck were transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The other 12 passengers on the bus were not hurt and were transferred to another bus to continue to their final destination, which is the Great Mall in Milpitas.

The front of the truck suffered minor damage, while the back bed of the truck appeared to have major damage.

The front of the VTA bus was also damaged. It ended up hitting the guard rail, according to photos from the scene.  The bus actually damaged the guardrail on impact.

The collision happened between Jacklin Road and Calaveras Boulevard, officials said.

Officials said the area was cleared of the accident just before 7:30 p.m.
