Wild Standoff Included Crossbow, Sledgehammer and Nail Gun

They don't write up this kind of situation in the police handbooks

Sacramento police had to deal with a wild standoff Monday.  The suspect wasn't armed in your usual way.  Police say this guy had a crossbow, a sledge hammer and a nail gun.

Police say the 32-year-old man barricaded himself inside a Sacramento home Monday evening after a bizarre shootout involving one of all of the above listed weapons.

First, police said he put the crossbow and sledge hammer in a threatening position, so they discharged a taser which hit him, but did not bring him down.

Instead of falling in surrender, police said the man then grabbed a nail gun and started shooting.  After that, police fired real bullets.

The suspect retreated into the garage and became silent.

Negotiators attempted to make verbal contact with the man, but could not.  Using a police camera, SWAT officers found the man lying on the ground with one hand underneath his body.

Officers directed the man to show his hands, however, he did not comply. Fearing that he may have a weapon, a K-9 was deployed, police said. The K-9 bit the man forcing him to reveal his hand which enabled officers to safely take him into custody.

The man suffered multiple gunshot wounds, but was conscious, alert and talking when contacted by officers. He was transported to UC Davis Medical Center for treatment.

His name was withheld pending further investigation. He is only being identified as a 32-year-old Fijian man.

No officers were during the incident.
