Bumgarner Worthy of Every Bit of Praise

Twitter was abuzz on Wednesday night during the historic performance from San Francisco Giants pitcher Madison Bumgarner in Game 7 of the World Series, both with abundant praise of the Giants' 25-year-old lefty and also with criticism of FOX announcer Joe Buck's unyielding love of all things Bumgarner.

While the latter was probably justified, it was hard to argue with the insane amount of praise heaped upon Bumgarner, because he was all kinds of awesome.

Let's just put a bow on Bumgarner's World Series, let alone his entire postseason, shall we?

His win on Wednesday night was later changed to a five-inning save, and with two days of rest in between, Bumgarner ended up tossing 14 scoreless innings after his complete-game shutout in Game 5. His Game 1 start ended after seven innings, when he allowed just one run in his final inning of work.

In all for the World Series, Bumgarner was a sparkling 2-0 with a save in 21 innings of work. He allowed one run for a 0.43 ERA, struck out 17 and walked one. Over the course of the entire postseason, which included his win in the NL Wild Card Game, Bumgarner was 4-1 with a 1.03 ERA and pitched an MLB record 52 2/3 innings.

So yeah, the Bumgarner praise on Wednesday night might've been a little annoying, but it was anything but over the top. If you watched Wednesday's game, consider yourself lucky.
