SAN JOSE – Timo Meier, thought to be on the precipice of making the NHL roster, won't be available for the Sharks' first preseason game on Tuesday night at SAP Center.
The ninth overall pick in the 2015 draft missed his second straight day of camp with strep throat, and coach Pete DeBoer confirmed he wouldn't be in the lineup against the Canucks.
The Sharks are listing 21 skaters on their roster for the preseason opener (three of which will be scratched).
The forwards are John McCarthy, Marcus Sorensen, Barclay Goodrow, Micheal Haley, Ryan Carpenter, Colin Blackwell, Chris Tierney, Tommy Wingels, Rourke Chartier, Kevin Labanc, Daniel O'Regan, Jonathan Martin, Nikolay Goldobin and Matt Nieto. Available defensemen include Brenden Dillon, David Schlemko, Mirco Mueller, Joakim Ryan, Jacob Middleton, Dylan DeMelo and Jeremy Roy.
The goaltenders are Troy Grosenick and Mantas Armalis. One is likely to play the entire game if DeBoer sticks to how he handled his goalies last year in the preseason.
Among the players Vancouver is sending is James Sheppard, who spent four years in the Sharks organization and is trying to catch on with the Canucks on a pro tryout. The 28-year-old spent last year in the Swiss league. Other notables include Bo Horvat, Jake Virtanen and Brendan Gaunce.
