Most people would scream and hop up on a chair if they saw a rat in their house -- even try to get rid the little creature.
While rats often get a bad rep, to some the rodent is a perfect pet.
For those who aren't too skiddish about the prospect of becoming rat daddies (or mommies), there's a workshop this weekend at The Peninsula Humane Society in San Mateo. The free event will benefit the volunteer group Rattie Ratz.
The presentation "The Wonderful World of Rats" will also feature many rats up for adoption and supplies needed when owning a rat.
Pictures of the beady-eyed critters will be judged and a winner will be crowned king.
Watch your step as rats will also be on display in an agility training demo and obstacle course. That would make it a real rat race.
The workshop will be held from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Humane Society's auditorium, located at the far end of the shelter at 12 Airport Blvd. in San Mateo.
This year's workshop is the fifth annual rat presentation put on by Rattie Ratz.
Rattie Ratz asks owners to please leave their "companion animals" at home for this event. Guess that means no cats are allowed either.
