Catholics Unfriend Facebook for Lent

Status updates are going blank for some Californians.

A group of Christian leaders say they are seeing more and more of their followers -- no, not a Twitter reference -- swear off the Palo Alto-based social-networking site for Lent.

The annual Christian tradition is when believers sacrifice things they love for Jesus from Ash Wednesday until Easter.

Giving up Facebook is not something that is required or even encouraged by the church necessarily but it is not frowned upon either.

With the shear amount of time that people spend on Facebook, vowing to break the addiction goes in line with making sacrifices.
